Statement from March 22nd, 2021

Over the past few months, the ongoing global pandemic has exacerbated existing racism, ignorance, and discrimination aimed towards members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, with a rise in hate incidents across the nation. These acts of violence have no place in our society.

I hope that we can join together in ensuring that these xenophobic attitudes do not exist within our own communities. Together, we must stand with the members of the Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander community, and absolutely condemn the discrimination and violence that has been intensified during the pandemic.

These times serve as a reminder that we must never stop working towards a better understanding of one another, and continue to treat each other with kindness and respect. As Student Member of the Maryland State Board of Education (SMOB), I look forward to continue serving you all in the next four months ahead as my term comes to an end. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me should you ever need support.

Stay safe and all the best.

Kind Regards,

Jason Wu
